Day 24

Friday 18 March 2011

Today much the same as yesterday, late start, relaxing day, lunch and eventually getting ready to go out.

Met Peter Tregear in the centre of Melbourne, he hasn’t changed a bit since the Downing days and still looks as youthful as ever. We headed albeit an hour later than planned to a jazz club hidden in Guildford lane which is just behind La Trobe between Flagstaff and Central station really. It was an awesome night, and although only there from 8 to 9 the atmosphere made for some really great fun.

The guy in charge or at least the main pianist is a guy called Steve Sedergreen, he’s a lovely bloke and if i could liken his style i would to Jools Holland, it’s that my body is not facing the piano but my arms are playing it kinda look, often standing up, rarely sitting down! It was fun and literally anyone who wanted could just get up grab their instrument or one that was there and jam. I’m not sure what Dave’s jazz playing is like but it would be great to have seen him join in. A couple of beers later and a few photos and that was it, time to head off and back to Monty to go to bed.

Well that was the idea, in practice persuading Peter to go to a bar was easy and off we went in search of one, after a couple of packed bars we found Madame Brussels on Bourke Street, not far from parliament. It’s a cocktail bar serving cocktails in teapots where the staff where tennis gear, didn’t quite seem like it but the beer was nice. Had a quick chat with Dave on the cell and then that really was it so time to return home.

I hadn’t eaten so found a subway on the way home and munched that on the train. Was an awesome night and great to see Melbourne, very much looking forward to another night out, preferably equally as light but perhaps getting home a little later! Bed beckons, home at half 12.
