Day 15

Wednesday 9 March 2011

So apparently Prince William is coming for the service in Christchurch next Friday, a shame not to be here then, but i’m sure we will have as much fun without him. Today was another action packed day, leaving afert breakfast aiming for the Auckland Domain (gardens) which houses the Auckland Museum. It houses all thing Maori and all sorts of other Kiwi history including wartime areas which we didn’t look at.

Lunch at the museum followed by a trek, for David to see a 39 tonne organ, although to be fair it looked fairly small so i wonder whether most organs are in fact heavier. Anyway we got him the technical details on its performance so i’m sure he will enjoy that. It took ages today, time just flew past so before we knew it it was time to head back and aim for the sky tower. We passed the Uni which was massively busy and they all seem to enjoy themselves so maybe another good excuse to come back here…? I didn’t mentioned that the church next door to the big organ one was moved, literally whole from accross the street. Pretty impressive and it was all done on steels and dragged along with two lorries.

Sadly the sky tower was closed when we arrived for some private function so it seems like tomorrow will be the day we go up, prior to our flight to Christchurch. It wasn’t all bad though, i figured a 100 lengths in the hotel pool was a good idea so I definitely felt up for dinner.

We found a nice italian called Portofino and dined in the usual manner there, it was good but overall we decided day 1 in Auckland was the best meal. Finished with a tiramasu as it was italian, washed down with a Grappa. Reminded me somewhat of drinking grappa and playing cards with David Nicoll in Rome, a stunning hotel there and one i want to return to.

Tomorrows update will be full of fun and jokes no doubt from Keith and hopefully an update on the photos.
